  My Encounter with The Deafbeat

When I first heard about the show performance of Deafbeat and Sound of Silent Dreams, I was quite surprised. I did not know or heard that these group ever exists. Deafbeat's first public performance  began last year, and they were invited to perform in Hong Kong.

I really wanted to watch the show so I invited 10 of my friends to join me. The show was held in KLPAC, Sentul for 4 days (27-30 August 2009). I was so amazed by the way Deafbeat showed their drum skills. How can they produced such wonderful sound and synchronize their movement when they cannot even hear it. I can’t believe my own eyes! They are such wonderful and talented performers.

After the drum performance, the main show - Sound of Silent Dreams started. It was a story of a deaf man coming home from his daily work. When he went to sleep, his dream came alive. His dream started with his encounter with an Evil Owl coming out from an antic clock, seeing an old lady, a beautiful dancer, an evil King, and a lot more.

At first I did not understand what the performance was all about since this was my first time watching a theater show. They were using body language and only 1% of sign language. In my opinion, there was no need to use sign language since the audience understand body language better. Their body language was good and more effective. The story made me laughed. I never expect them to act so well. I am so proud of them since this is the first time in MALAYSIA that we have a show consists of Deaf people performing in front of live audiences and tourists.

Do come and watch the show next time so that the Deafs can continue to be success in the future.
