One of the major problems with the deaf people when comes to the census counts is that they are category as general as a disabled/handicapped people.
The age gap is also become a major problem for a deaf person. This happened when a person cross over from "hearing" to "hard of hearing", from "hard of hearing" to "deaf". This make it difficult to make the count, for example ages 5-19, ages 3-21, ages 6-18, etc. However we need to keep in mind that the figures for very young deaf children are not available due to the problems and uncertainties of identifying deafness in that age group.
