The Project uses and extends
state-of-the art technologies to create a world in which Deaf children
and adults are able to learn, collaborate and communicate effectively
with hearing people on an equal basis.
We hope that, through IT, a world
will be opened up where deafness is no barrier to communication,
accessing information, learning or making a contribution to society.
myHe@ring Exchange provides web-based resources for the Deaf community in Malaysia. These resources fall under three inter-related categories:
-
Knowledge Centre: provides basic and advanced information related to deafness.
-
Services:
provides support for community interaction and knowledge sharing,
access to specialist services (eg. therapists) and Deaf persons'
entrepreneurial development.
-
eLearning:
provides interactive learning aids and rich, interactive media content
supporting self, group, and facilitator-assisted learning.
myHe@ring Exchange provides
a supportive community for people with hearing loss, parents of deaf
and hard of hearing children and professionals who work with them. It
provides an open forum for the discussion of ideas and information on
hearing loss and related issues. The comprehensive site includes
current news, articles, resource, forums, chats, news and much more.
All communicate methods and choices should be respected within all
areas of Myhe@ring Exchange.
One aspect of the Project is on
the use of “Virtual Signing with Animation”. Written language
competence of many Deaf people is generally poor, and human
interpreters are regularly used to support communication with the Deaf.
Often, it is not feasible to to gain access to such services. Human
interpreters are expensive and scarce; and signing videos must be
well-produced and download times on the Internet are often prohibitive.
